Milwaukee Tool has announced plans to release a new Recip blade this March. The Milwaukee Torch Nitrus Carbide Reciprocating Saw Blade is designed to cut three times as long as a standard carbide-tipped blade and should tackle all of your tough cuts on the job, especially cast iron.
“When we launched our carbide torch blades in 2018, we disrupted the market and exceeded user expectations by delivering unmatched versatility and longevity in extremely thick metal applications. Introducing Nitrus Carbide, a unique carbide compound, our popular metal cutting Torch blades are setting the standard again, giving them unmatched speed and longevity in extremely thick metal applications.”
Milwaukee Torch Nitrus Carbide reciprocating saw blades represent the next evolution in the brand’s line of reciprocating saw blades.
Milwaukee designed the new blade with 7 TPI for faster starts and smoother cuts.Large gullets are incorporated into the design for better chip evacuation.
The distinguishing features of Nitrus Carbide inserts revolve around a unique carbide compound.Milwaukee told us they designed this carbide to last the longest and cut the fastest in cast iron and other thick metals.
The combination of all these properties allows the new inserts to “outperform standard carbide-tipped inserts in common metal applications without sacrificing insert life and with fewer insert changes.”
Milwaukee Torch Nitrus Carbide reciprocating saw blades will hit shelves this March. They are available in 6″ and 9″ lengths and you can buy 1, 3 and 5 packs. The 6-inch option sells for $16.97, while the 9-inch torch blade retails for $21.97.
Moving the Torch range forward from the Torch Carbide we tested in 2018, the most important seems to be the carbide mix.Of the Big Three (Diable, Lenox, and Milwaukee), Torch Carbide ended up with a respectable useful life, but fell short of Lenox’s.
Raw carbide inserts last 50% longer than standard bimetal inserts. The new Milwaukee Torch Nitrus claims 3 times the life of standard carbide inserts. We’ll have to wait and see what that means compared to the Torch Carbide until we get the hang of some.
At $16.97 for the 6-inch blade and $21.97 for the 9-inch blade, they’re more expensive than previous versions. However, if you’re a “cost per cut” type of shopper, the longevity seems to justify the extra expense.
